Bus Stop

Submitting Pictures

This is a brief description of what we would like to see.  If you can't do all of this, don't worry, we can still use the pictures.

What we like to see:

  • Close up of Sign
  • Site Survey picture (just get back about 20 yards or so and take a picture of the whole stop).
  • Shelters
  • Benches
  • Trash Cans
  • Transit Centers (Several pictures from different angles are nice)
  • Artwork, both at bus stops or about buses.
  • Interesting shelters
  • Any BRT pictures
  • Buses (Hey, something has to use the Stop)

Information that we like to be included:

  • The Transit System that controls the stop. (Required, well, not totally, but it is nice)
  • The Location of the stop, including City, State, Country etc. (Required, it is nice to know where it is, we can keep this quiet if there is a valid reason)
  • Who took the picture.
  • Who is submitting the picture.
  • Who is to get credit for the picture (if different).  We do accept pictures from that famous person "Anonymous".
  • Any text you want with the picture, please keep it clean this site is rated G..

E-mail the picture, or questions to eric@the-bus-stops-here.org or  gary@the-bus-stops-here.org

Submission Example:
The following Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District stop is located at Westbound California State Route 192, near side of State Route 154 in Santa Barbara, California.  This picture was taken and submitted by G. Araki.

Site Survey picture of Santa Barbara bus stop site.

Example of area view of stop.

Close up of Santa Barbara sign.

Example of close up picture of sign.

Both of these pictures were originally taken with a digital camera and saved at 1152x864x16M as a JPEG.  Size was changed for final use.  The index pictures are reduced to around 200x150, while the larger shots are changed to around 640x480.  We will occasionally post large sizes.

Long Range Plans

We have come closer to finalizing what we are doing with this site.  One of out ideas is to present a more complete picture of each district.  This will require more and different pictures for each district.

The following pictures for each district will be required for this ultimate goal, don't be worry, this is more wishing at the moment, we will still take pictures of single stops and signs.

  • Picture of a typical bus stop
  • Close up picture of the sign
  • Picture of the back of the sign if it is different
  • Picture of a typical bus from the district (more interested in the design of the paint job then a complete set of buses.
  • Picture of typical facilities at bus stops, to include Benches, Shelters, Trash Cans, etc.

Below is a mostly complete set of pictures from one district, in this case Lake Transit in Lake County, California.

This is a fairly typical bus stop for this district.  This stop is located at Main and Ninth in Lakeport.

This is the front and back of the sign located at the stop in the picture above.  Their sign is designed to be mounted so it is centered on the pole.

Now comes the missing part, we didn't see on of their buses so didn't get a picture of it.

This is the only shelter we saw in Lake County, it is a real new installation, and this bench is one of two different styles we saw, didn't get a picture of the other.  The bench is also brand new, probably installed in the week preceding our visit.  We did not see any trash cans, or information signs, installed at the stops.

For districts operating without bus stops, this includes Paratransit operators, a simple picture of the bus is all we will need.
