This page is dedicated to the memory of Gary Araki.
It is one of the hardest things I have had to write when I pass on the news that Gary Araki is no longer with us. I first met Gary many years ago after being hired by Santa Clara County
Transit. I was a traffic checker and Gary was in intern learning about transit. Over the years we stayed in touch, even though he left County Transit during one of many reorganizations. In
many ways he was like a brother to me (my mom always called him one of her kids, and he accepted the relationship always sending her transit schedules from around the country.) Over the years
Gary and I have spent many days talking transit, driving to and from places where we can find bus stops or train stations we did not have pictures of for this site. Many a day we would just take a day
and drive around Northern and Central California looking for new bus stops, or the relocated Amtrak stations.
We also shared a few other common interests, such as computers, photography and some aspects of history. Gary was always there when I needed help with my computer, just as I was there when he
needed help with the local transit. Even if he did accuse me of being a bum whenever I got a paid day off. Gary was a man of many interests in his lifetime, this included computers,
photography, sports, broadcasting, fishing, nature and many others I may have never heard about.
I will endeavor at add more to this page over the next few days. People wishing to add comments should e-mail them to me at gimlack at earthlink.net. Other Tribute pages to Gary: Ryan Leong Penninsula Press Club Collumn Dedicated to Gary |
