Edmonton Transit System
Edmonton, Alberta

A couple of pictures of bus stop signs gleaned from their WWW page a few years ago.

Due to the high/record temperatures in Denver, it seems like a good time to circulate this slide from my Edmonton Transit file. The jet in the photo is possibly arriving from someplace like Yellowknife, Fort McMurray, someplace where it gets colder.  Picture & Text by Robert R.

Calgary Transit
Calgary, Alberta

Stop located at 9th Ave. & 1st St.  Captured by J. Broock.

A close up of the sign at left by the same person.

A couple of pictures of the Sunnyside Light Rail Station.  There are no passengers visible due to a labour action currently in progress.  Pictures by "ditto".

This stop is near one of their LR Stations.  Picture by you know who.

A stop after having been attacked by the snow plow.  Thanks for the pictures.

Moving up the coast, we come to Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island. This is the bus exchange located at Harbour Centre, a mall in Downtown Nanaimo.  Picture & text by C. Hobbs.

One of their bus stop signs, with a good shot of a Laidlaw inter-city coach.  Picture & text by C. Hobbs.

Transit centers are called "bus exchanges" in British Columbia. This is the bus exchange on the University of Victoria campus, Victoria, British Columbia (Vancouver Island)  Picture & text by C. Hobbs.

One of their new double deckers.  Okay, so our collection expert (C. Leech) wasn't in Victoria, the bus wasn't either.  Pictures taken while the bus was on tour in Ottawa.

Iqaluit Transit
Iqaluit, Nunavut

Pictures courtesy of Vincent Chan, www.arcticcircle.ca .  This is a fairly new service in the city (town of) Iqaluit, Nunavut.  Yes, the bus is an old school bus.  One of our sources reports this service has been discontinued. :-(

Québec

A collection of pictures from various districts within Québec Province.

This flag is an antique which is likely to be replaced by a new RTL flag. Prior to the amalgamation that created the new City of Longueuil, St-Bruno-de-Montarville was a separate municipality that had its own transit service, operating similar to a CIT. The St-Bruno transit service is slowly being integrated with the rest of the RTL, but there are still differences such as different zone fares. Both the STM and RTL used to use round signs like this, but have changed to rectangular signs. This stop is located on Boul. Seigneurial, adjacent to a park&ride lot for express buses which is also the former site of the St-Bruno commuter train station. The train station was moved about 2 km west to provide easy park&ride access from Autoroute 30.

More pictures from Québec can be found here.

FRED
Halifax, Nova Scotia

This picture of a FRED bus was sent to us by C. Leech.  No signs have been seen yet, but here is the bus.

Hamilton Street Railway - Hamilton, Ontario

Photo 1 is a typical HSR bus shelter used on busy routes. There is a small seat and an advertising panel and usually a system map. The 2 yellow posts protect the shelter from snow ploughs in the neighbouring parking lot. Location at Barton Street & Lake Avenue.  Picture & Text by M Taylor.

Photo 2 is the HSR sign strapped to a concrete utility pole. The phone number is assigned to this stop and those close and a call to the number will tell you when the next bus will arrive. Barton & Lake. This used to be a trolleybus route until 1990.  Picture & Text by M Taylor.

Photo 3 on Lawrence Avenue is a stop on a less traveled route with just a paved shoulder for the bus to pull into. This is attached to a wooden hydro pole. Electricity in Ontario is called "hydro" because the original utility was the Ontario Hydro-Electric Commission. Note the different phone number. Lawrence Avenue is also a bike route.  Picture & Text by M. Taylor

HSR URL is http://www.hamilton.ca/living-here/transit/

TTC - Toronto, Ontario

TTC1 is a streetcar stop post at The Queensway & Windermere Ave. There is 24 hour service on the route, it is a streetcar stop (the icon is of a PCC, no longer in service) , a safety poster and a POP warning. POP is Proof of Payment and on the Queen Streetcar lines you can enter any door but if you pay a fare then you need proof. Many riders use passes.  Picture & Text by M Taylor.

TTC2 is the east bound stop showing the layout with just a wind shield because of the narrow platform and the sand bin for use on snowy days. The line is on a private reservation in the street and this is the only line with that feature. Note transit traffic lights and special left hand turn lights for motorists.  Picture & Text by M Taylor.

TTC3 is the west bound stop.  Picture & Text by M. Taylor.

TTC4 is a combination bus/streetcar stop as can be seen by the dual icons. It is served by the eastbound Long Branch streetcar line and by the mostly northbound bus which runs to the Royal York Road subway station. The blue are reflective.

At one time the stops were lettered "Car Stop" or "Bus Stop" but now rely only on multi-lingual icons.  Pictures & Text by M. Taylor.

Pembroke, ON

This is sort of a generic sign that used to get used in a lot of places in Canada.  Picture provided by C. Leech.

GRT, Ontario

GRT provides service to Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.

This picture was taken in downtown Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. The location is King St., where the Market Square is. This is a bus stop panel from the days of Kitchener Transit. However, around 2000, Kitchener Transit and Cambridge Transit, of neighbouring Cambridge, merged into present-day Grand River Transit. Some bus stops have the bus symbol, like that found on the Pembroke bus stops. Photos taken on July 11, 2006. Picture & text by anonymous.
